Our History

Celebrating over 125 years of brewing excellence.

Forming the Association

The Master Brewers Association of the Americas recently celebrated our 125th anniversary. Below is a collection of documents containing or summarizing various Master Brewers meetings and programs throughout its history.

A small group of master brewers gathered in Chicago in March of 1887. These individuals belonged to various local master brewer groups and decided to form a conglomerate of master brewers to better benefit the masses.

A committee of three men—Louis Frisch, William J. Seib, and Charles J. Schmidt—was appointed to draft the charter of the organization. The Master Brewers' Association of the United States was granted the charter on April 14, 1887.
