Abstract

Treatment of brewing water through reverse osmosis (RO) membranes is at once convenient and wasteful. This article explores how a partial bypass around RO membranes can minimize the waste associated with traditional RO technology while ensuring beer quality. In the case study presented, a regional craft brewery was able to save water, energy, and raw materials after implementing a partial bypass solution.
