Abstract
The production of beer requires a great deal of energy and water. Additionally, it generates a significant amount of waste that requires treatment. When considering the cost of electrical energy, natural gas, water, and wastewater treatment a brewer can achieve significant cost-of-production savings by making minor changes to their brewery. In some cases, a brewery’s efforts to save energy and water can come with financial support from utility providers. By tracking and reviewing your brewery’s energy and water usage per barrel and comparing this against your peers, you are able to create a roadmap for where energy and water savings exist within your brewery and implement strategic efficiency measures to reduce the cost of production.
