Abstract
Beer filtration is inherently a balancing act. Precoat filtration technology is the mostly widespread method of filtration. It has been developed in the last decades more and more into a highly efficient filtration technology. Filtration must be tight enough to remove these unwanted components without losing the essential quality of the beer being filtered. This article discusses the removal of haze particles, haze-producing substances, and organisms. Furthermore, the technological influences on filterability and fluid dynamics basics are shown. With that knowledge the article describes easy ways for craft brewers to improve the filtration process.
