Measuring Lager and Ale Yeast Viability and Vitality Using Fluorescence-Based Image Cytometry

 
Leo Chan currently serves as the Technology R&D Manager at Nexcelom Bioscience LLC, Lawrence, MA. His research involves in the development of instrument and applications for the Cellometer image cytometry system for detection and analysis of yeasts used in brewing and biofuel industries. He is a member of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas and American Society for Brewing Chemist. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2000-2008).

Criteria​

The Inge Russell Best Paper Award is presented to a Master Brewers member(s) who have authored the year's best paper in the Technical Quarterly. The award was created to honor Dr. Russell, a former editorial board chair, who over the years gave invaluable technical assistance to Technical Quarterly and to the Master Brewers.
