Distinguished Life Service Award recognizes members of the Master Brewers who
have provided sustained and exceptional lifetime commitment and service to the
association. The award is not automatically given each year, only in the years
when there is an exceptional member who fits the criteria.
Professor Inge Russell is a brewing scientist, writer and editor. She is a past-president of both Master Brewers and the ASBC. Over the years she has been active in Master Brewers in various roles relating to educational initiatives, including temporary editor of the Master Brewers Technical Quarterly. She is retired from research in fermentation science (Labatt/InBev) and is currently the editor of the JASBC, as well as co-editor of Critical Reviews in Biotechnology. She is also the previous editor of the J. Inst. Brew. She holds a D.Sc. and Ph.D. in fermentation science (Strathclyde University, Scotland) and an Honorary Doctorate from Heriot Watt University, where she is a Professor. She is the author/co-author of over 150 publications consisting of papers, patents, books, and review articles, in the area of yeast, biotechnology and fermentation. A large portion of her time is spent mentoring young scientists in the brewing/fermentation industry.
