MEETING MINUTES

  • Chris German called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guests. He also thanked the Summit Brewing Company for hosting the meeting.
  • Mike Miziorko read the minutes of the August meeting. Motion to accept, 2nd, and approved.
  • Rebecca Jennings gave the Treasurer’s Report. Motion to accept, 2nd, and approved.
  • A Communications/Committee Report was given
    • In Local level communications:
      -Tom Kaehler, Golf Committee Chair, plans to hold the annual District Golf Outing next year either at New Ulm Country Club or North Links Shoot ’n’ Golf (which would involve 9 holes of golf and a trap shooting session instead of 18 holes of golf @ New Ulm CC) if that is the option preferred by the membership. Regardless of where the golfing occurs, the outing will be followed by a dinner at the August Schell Brewing Company.
    • In National level communications:
      BOG Rep Bob DuVernois was not present to report; a motion was made to replace Bob as the district BOG rep. Tom Thomasser of Summit Brewing Company volunteered and was selected as the new District St. Paul/Minneapolis Board of Governors Representative.
    • In other national level news:
      • MBAA Packaging Course will be from May 1-12, 2011
      • Brewing and Malting Science Course-dates tbd
      • IBD Exam review Course- Feb 8-17, 2011 (in cooperation between MBAA and the IBD)
      • Installation of National MBAA officers- November 13th in Athens, GA: Rob McCaig will be the incoming president
  • Notifications for past due members were made by Membership Chair Theresa Chicos
  • Election for incoming District Secretary:
    -Candidates were: Eric Harper-Summit Brewing, Chris Bauer-BASF and Curt Jacobsen- Rahr Malting
    • Each candidate gave a brief speech followed by a silent balloting of the membership; Eric Harper was elected as the new district secretary
  • Old Business:
    -The importance of RSVP’s to district functions was stressed, as numbers for catering, which is paid for by the District and meeting hosts, at these events is based upon RSVP’s.
  • New Business:
    -the cancellation of the Midwest Technical Conference and its ramifications for the district were explained to the membership
  • Meetings for 2011: Winter Meeting Feb. 9th –no host at this time
    • Spring Meeting- May 11th – August Schell Brewing Co.
    • Summer Meeting- August 10th –need host
    • Fall Meeting- November 9th – Summit Brewing Co.
    • Summer Social- potentially to be held again at Hyland Lake Park and Reserve in Bloomington- we will attempt to schedule the Summer Social for a Saturday this year-instead of a Friday evening
    • Annual Convention- MBAA National Convention will be held in Minneapolis- October 13-15th, -2011
      Dist. St. Paul/Minneapolis is looking for suggestions on how to be involved/host special events surrounding the convention
  • Announcement of the New District Secretary and the 2011-2012 exec. Board was made
    • President: Chris German- Brewers Supply Group
    • Vice President: Rebecca Jennings- Rahr Malting Co
    • Treasurer: Mike Miziorko – Summit Brewing Co
    • Secretary: Eric Harper- Summit Brewing Co.

  • A dinner of Roast Pork and Turkey catered by the Divine Swine was enjoyed by the membership
