Transformation of a Brownfield Site Coors Brewing Company- Memphis

Abstract
The Coors' Memphis brewery faces the challenge of replacing nearly 40% of its manufacturing workforce, which is predicted to retire in three to five years. Language in the current Teamster's contract allows Coors to develop and implement an apprentice training prog,ram. That apprentice program has two distinct parts; one for production and one for skilled trades. This paper shows how those programs have been developed using processes such as DACUM, Work Keys and SCIDs. Working with the Memphis "Workforce '005" team (a partnership between the Memphis chamber of commerce, representatives from business and industry, the Memphis city school system and the local two-year college, state technical institute in Memphis), The Memphis brewery has utilized its current skilled workforce as subject matter experts to develop both programs. During February and April 1998, the Memphis brewery hired twenty four apprentices for packaging, brewing and warehouse. During May, two apprentices for the skilled trades program were hired. All phases of program development are presented; from the hirng process to the development of the curriculum through weekly performance evaluations.

Sintesis
La cervecerfa Coors de Memphis se enfrenta con el reto de reemplazar cerca del 40% de su fuerza manufacturera, la cual se predice que se retirard en 3 a 5 aflos. El lenguaje del contracto corriente de los Teamster permite a la cervecerfa Coors el desarrollar e implementar un programa de entrenamiento de aprendices. Ese programa de aprendices tiene dos partes distintas; una para la produccion y otra para los oficios especializados. Este documento muestra como esos programas han sido desaffollados usando procesos tales como DACUM, Work Keys y SCIDs. Trabajando junto con el equipo "fuerza de trabajo 2005" de Memphis (una asociaci6n entre la cdmara de comercio, de Memphis, los representantes de la industria y comercio, el sistema escolar de la ciudad de Memphis y el colegio de dos ahos local, el instituto tocnico del estado en Memphis), la cervecerfa de Memphis ha utilizado su fuerza laboral entrenada actual como sujetos expertos para desarrollar ambos programas. Durante Febrero, y Abril de 1998, la cervecerfa de Memphis contrato a veinticuatro aprendices par el empacado, la elaboracion de la cerveza y la bodega. Durante Mayo, dos aprendices para los oficios especializados fueron contratados. Todas las fases del programa de desarrollo son presentadas; desde el proceso para contratar hasta el desarrollo del currfculum mediante evaluaciones de trabajo semanales.
