Abstract
The primary objective in selection of malting barley for brewing is to get a high quality finished malt, which produces in turn a high quality wort and finished beer. Barley breeding projects for the past years have had the objective of developing premium quality, high yielding, dryland-adapted, 2-rowed malting barley varieties. The malting industry in the past years also has globalized and consolidated, which makes marketing more challenging. The terms for 2-rowed malting barley, and also the criteria which the maltster uses to select high quality 2-rowed malting barley are described.
Keywords: malt, barley, fusarium, barley selection
