Abstract
The internal shell and tube heat exchanger for wort boiling is described together with four systems for reducing energy consumption during wort boiling, namely the basic closed copper with internal heater, low pressure boiling, the Huppmann patented energy storage system (in which hot water from a storage tank is used in a plate heat exchanger to preheat the wort on its way to the copper, then reheated by being used to cool and condense the boiling wort vapour before returning to the tank) and the vapour compression system.
