Condensation control in buildings.

Abstract
Condensation of water vapour on the surfaces of buildings and equipment can result in permanent or semipermanent dampness, creating favourable conditions for the proliferation of undesirable microorganisms (especially mould fungi), increasing the rapidity and severity of metal corrosion, and sometimes making floors dangerously slippery. In many cases, the countermeasures taken have only a temporary effect. The physical factors governing the evaporation and condensation of water are explained together with the advantages and disadvantages of different ventilation and dehumidification systems. Coating ceilings or walls with a porous material termed a "micropore system", which adsorbs water vapour in such a way as to minimize condensation and facilitate the removal of water by ordinary ventilation systems, is recommended.
