Abstract
Measures to reduce water consumption in breweries (e.g. reduced CIP rinse volumes) are described together with the recovery and reuse of water from pasteurization, can/bottle rinsing, the boilerhouse, etc. In some cases, recovered water may require less treatment than water from the public supply. Some problems associated with water recycling are discussed. It is pointed out that rising water and effluent costs may lead to some measures previously considered uneconomic becoming worthwhile in future.
