Abstract
The Adolph Coors Company production malting facilities include micro, pilot, Saladin box and tower malthouses. The final malt blend for brewing is determined by barley inventory, quality and location. Barley shipments are regularily tested in a micro malter and results compared to actual and expected production malthouse performance. Malting characteristics of 1 pound, 80 t Saladin maltings and 250 t tower maltings are compared. The most significant difference is the consistently higher alpha amylase in the malt from the micromalter and tower malthouse, compared to older Saladin box maltings.
