Abstract
Brewery management must take a decision on whether to contract for pest control services or whether to carry out in house pest control. The considerations to be taken into account are discussed. When the decision has been made to use an outside service, a contract has to be drawn up between the brewery and the pest control operator (PCO). This contract will define the problems and how they are to be tackled i.e. areas to be treated, method and frequency of treatment and materials that are permitted to be used. The plant master brewer is responsible for liaison with the PCO's and enforcement of the contract throughout the entire brewery. The condition of the plant and the effectiveness of the pest control programme is determined by plant quality assurance via quarterly audit and by spot check audit.
