Abstract
Nationally distributed beers (U.S.A.) were checked for the presence of asbestos filters using an electron microscope. All brands tested were found to contain some asbestos fibres. The use of Clearfil to replace asbestos in beer filtration has been investigated. In laboratory filtrations the use of a mixture of 75% Celite 512 and 25% Clearfil gave beer with better clarity and faster filtration time than a mixture of the same proportion of Celite 512 with 25% asbestos.
