​​Meet the Author: Karl Ockert Discusses The Craft Brewer's Handbook

Summary

After earning a BS in fermentation science from the University of California (UC), Davis, Karl Oc​kert began a career in craft brewing when there were only a handful of microbreweries in the United States. In addition to being an active member of Master Brewers since the early 1990s and a former technical director for the association, Karl is editor of the best-selling Practical Handbook for the Specialty Brewer and co-editor of Beer Packaging, Second Edition and Beer Steward Handbook, Second Edition. He has been an instructor and course director for the Master Brewers short courses and an instructor for the UC Davis brewing short courses and Master Brewers Certificate Program. His forthcoming MBAA book is The Craft Brewer’s Handbook, a hands-on, practical book on how to brew beer specifically in manually operated brewpubs and small packaging brewery settings. Like Karl’s other handbook, The Craft Brewer’s Handbook will follow an accessible, digestible Q&A format.

Karl Ockert manages Karl Ockert Brewing Services, LLC, a consulting business for new and existing breweries. His former affiliations include Anheuser-Busch, BridgePort Brewing Company, Nor’Wester Brewing, Engine House Brewery Pub, and Powerhouse Brewery Pub. Karl also served as director of brewery operations at Deschutes Brewery.
