Abstract
During the last 4 decades, the New Zealand hop breeding program has developed and released several seedless cultivars that have triploid sets of chromosomes. High-alpha- and aroma-type cultivars have been developed and are used by both domestic and international brewers. Currently, 99% of the commercial plantings are New Zealand-bred triploid cultivars. Cultivars with unique chemistry and brewing characteristics have been released. Alternative triploid breeding strategies have been developed. The performance of commercially grown cultivars and several advanced selections is presented.
Keywords: alpha acids, cultivar, essential oils, genetics, hops, Humulus lupulus, plant breeding

Sntesis
