Abstract
The Pabst Brewing Company has produced more beer through the use of mash filters than any other brewing organization. Pabst currently operates nine mash filters in four of its five plants, and continues to believe that mash filters provide the best current method of performing the brewhouse lautering task. This presentation provides a description of the considerations involved in purchasing, installing, and operating mash filters at the Pabst Brewing Company. Details are provided on the selection, piping, automation, manning and clothing of these machines. Calculation of brews and typical cycle times are described. The primary basis for this presentation is the most current Pabst mash filter installation in its Perry, Georgia, plant.
