Balances showing the input of raw materials, processing aids, water and energy and the output of product, by-products and wastes are described for barley growing, malting, brewing and beer packaging. Measures to reduce waste output and improve energy efficiency are recommended. The problem of carbon dioxide emissions is discussed together with the management of waste reduction and other environmental matters in the brewery.
