Abstract
An update is presented on changes in two piece aluminium beer can developments and their possible effects on a brewery's packaging operations. Recent changes include: triple necking to reduce aluminium use; introduction of the 'mini seam', a double seam for triple necked-in cans; development of spin triple necked-in cans. In the field of light weight cans higher speed can manufacture, reduction of aluminium content, reduction of bottom chime diameter, wall thinning and light weight ends are under constant development. For the future ultra speed handling of convex bottom cans is a major challenge.
