Quality assurance - the bass approach.

Abstract
The structure and organisation of the Bass Quality Assurance (QA) system is described in detail. A good working relationship has been established between the Central QA Department of Bass Brewing Ltd. and the QA departments in each of the 13 Bass breweries. Its main functions are to establish specifications for brewing and packaging materials, flavour profiling, product development and matching, quality auditing and legislative and safety aspects. It also maintains the Bass Yeast Collection, operates a yeast assurance policy, provides facilities for specialised analyses and has on hand a team of trouble-shooters. Individual brewing laboratories are directly responsible for monitoring quality within their own brewery from the intake of raw material through to the packaged product and sales outlets. Close technical liaison between the central QA department and the breweries is maintained through working parties on subjects such as method standardisation and improvement, product matching and the application of microcomputers.
