Abstract
The behavior of an industrial powder filter is compared with that of a single candle pilot filter. The increase in the specific resistance of the cake with increase in filtered beer volume or in the weight of the filter aid is identical for the two filters. Apart from a greater tendency to blind, the pilot filter satisfactorily mimics the industrial filter. If the type and usage level of additives are correct, the increase in pressure is linear with time, so that filter performance can be optimised in terms of maximum body feed rate.
