Alcohol recovery from brewery sources - an economic evaluation.
This economic evaluation indicates that recovery of industrial alcohol from waste containing 4 to 6% alcohol from brewery sources is capable of providing an adequate return on capital provided sufficient volume of waste alcoholic material is available. For a plant built specifically for this purpose at least 500,000 gal of alcohol (absolute) per year would have to be produced. This figure is reduced to 300,000 gal per year where the alcohol recovery is added to existing solvent or chemical recovery plant. Recovery would be a two stage distillation to 170 proof and 190 proof respectively. Proprietary techniques for odour elimination would be required to produce alcohol of saleable quality.
