MBAA INTERNATIONAL BREWERY EXCELLENCE RECOGNITION AWARDSCall for Subcommittee MembersThe MBAA’s original purpose was to promote the profession of brewing and be the source for brewers to network and improve their craft. As we carry this responsibility into this century, the MBAA Executive Committee agreed it is time we have an awards system that promulgates breweries that demonstrate excellence. Beginning in 2013 and at each annual conference after, we will award three breweries a “Brewery Excellence” award for achieving excellence in one of three categories; Sustainability, Community Service or Technical Contributions. The winning breweries will be promoted via press releases to publications worldwide. Additionally, in order to promote sharing of best practices. We will publish applications of the award applicants. To kick this off in 2012, I will be seeking subcommittee members who have background or interest for setting criteria, rules and the selection process these awards. We will have a meeting at the WBC 2012 to formalize the process. Please contact Mary Pellettieri at mary.pellettieri@millercoors.com at your earliest convenience if you have interest in participating in this subcommittee. ScopeThe MBAA’s original purpose was to promote the profession of brewing and be the source for brewer’s to network and improve their craft. The MBAA does not currently recognize breweries for their contributions to the science of the profession, community service or their proactive support of sustainable practices. Through an International Recognition Award program the MBAA can promote the scientific contributions breweries make to better our industry, community and environment. The scope of this program is to deliver three Brewery Excellence Awards at the MBAA annual conference and provide national public relations media for the breweries who best service the industry via; Community Service, Sustainability or Scientific Contributions. The subcommittee also provides a template for award applications, and guidance of award plaque designs. MBAA announces open applications in the fall prior to the next MBAA annual conference via electronic media, print ads (if available) in Technical Quarterly. Application process closes in the spring the year of the MBAA annual conference. Applications are sent to subcommittee members to review and ensure anonymity is maintained in the application. Applications are sent to the judges for review and selection. Judges read through applications select the winners via the criteria. Winners are shown to the subcommittee and the recipients are requested to be at the award ceremony, however the announcement happens at the ceremony.
