Publicize: Your publicity chair can play a huge role in getting the word out about what your MBAA District is doing. After your meeting, the publicity chair should submit a write-up with pictures to the various trade magazines and journals, such as The MBAA Communicator, Modern Brewery Age, probrewer.com, Beer Notes, etc. Let people know what they have missed if they didn’t attend! Invite: Be sure to invite not only the MBAA members in your District, but other nonmember brewers as well. They may not know how good your meetings are unless you let them know about it. Make the events fun, have ticket sales, and ask people and local businesses to donate prizes to give away. This works very well with District Mid-South! Another great tip is to send an e-mail or, even better, a hand-written invitation from the District president. Send an to Jim Lonetti at jiminstpaul@yahoo.com to have the event included in The MBAA Communicator, which is sent to MBAA members weekly, and post the meeting announcement on the Brewers Association Forum, which is e-mailed daily. Through these vehicles, your message will reach brewing professionals, not only in this country, but all over the world. Name-drop: Having top-notch speakers for your meetings is a great way to not only get new members but to keep current members coming back! The best speakers are the ones who have pertinent information for breweries of every size, not just large or small ones. Technology: Remember MBAA’s mission: “Dedicated to the technology of brewing.” Our goal as MBAA membership chairs is to help our members keep abreast of the most recent, technologically advanced methods, equipment, products, and science of brewing. If we do that, we will keep our current members and attract new ones at the same time! |
