Spring 2010 Meeting |
Sustainable Brewing Techniques
Don Dicey from Diversey Inc. will be presenting this
technical presentation. |
Presentation Abstract
This presentation consists of overview of how the brewing industry is addressing sustainability issues in the 2010's. Recognizing the opportunities for both corporate and craft brewers with respect to energy savings, efficiency gains, and developing a strong "Green" culture within the organization are key goals. Steps to "reduce", "consume less", "cut-out waste" "trim" and the like of the previous decades are being replaced by, "eliminate", "off-set" and "replace", made possible by emerging technologies and corporate driven cultural transformations. Today's breweries are under the microscope for their use of resources: electrical, water, packaging material streams, and by-product waste. Examples of current sustainable practices and desired results across the nation should serve as a guide in "goal setting" for greener brewing of the present and future. |

Spring 2010 Meeting |
Improved quality and pasteurizer performance through regular effective boil out. Tom Soukoup from ChemTreat will be presenting this technical presentation. |
Presentation Abstract
In the past boil outs were limited to high temperature, highly alkaline cleanings. Previously the major component that was removed was biological masses and the associated deposits. With the advent of automated halogen feed systems and greater focus on bio-control, biological deposition was greatly minimized. The bulk of deposition now tends to be grease and lubricant based material. ChemTreat has developed a successful methodology to help facilitate the removal of these deposits at lower temperatures. This helps protect the pasteurizer metallurgy and the integrity of the polypropylene matt top conveyors which are employed in most newer pasteurizers. This paper will discuss these advances and the benefits over the more traditional technology.
