View the Photo Album

District Northwest held their 157th meeting on May 1st and 2nd in Hood River, Oregon hosted by Craft Brewers Alliance. We had a record turnout of 147 members. Friday's weather was warm and sunny and provided ideal conditions for scheduled activities which included golfing, bike rides, and Frisbee golf.

Technical talks were kicked off by Steven Pauwels of Boulevard Brewing who gave an excellent presentation on Belgian Yeast Strains. Jess Caudill of Wyeast Laboratories followed this talk up with a Belgium Beer Sensory Tasting that examined six different pilot yeast strain fermentations comprised from the same base wort. Dinner was followed by an evening reception at Double Mountain Brewery.

Scott Kurth of Owens-Illinois, Inc started Saturday morning's talks with a presentation of Glass bottles and Quality Assurance. Greg Thomas of Hach Co. followed with interesting presentation on New Technologies in Dissolved Oxygen Measurement. Don Grambsch of Whitebox Commodities and Dr. Val Peacock (Anheuser Busch Inc Retiree) finished up the technical talks by presenting Market Trends of Barley and Hops, respectively.

Our fall meeting will be held in Bend, OR and hosted by Deschutes Brewery. Dates are set for October 23rd and 24th. Planning has already begun to make this a memorable meeting
