Meeting Recap

District Northwest held their 156th meeting on November 7th and 8th in Yakima, Washington. This meeting included a tour of the John I. Haas CO2 extraction plant and talks focused on Hops were given by Dr. Al Haunold (The History of Hop Breeding), Dr. David Hysert (Spontaneous Combustion of Hops, Fire, Loss, Prevention and Quality Improvement), Tom Nielsen (Differentiating Hop Aromas in Beer Brewed with Different Hop Varieties), and Dr. Michael Lewis ("Drinkability" Less Could Be More). Friday's dinner included a hop rub of six experimental hop varieties provided by Gene Probasco of John I. Haas. Deschutes Brewery provided six beers for sampling made from these experimental hops.

Our Spring Meeting will take place in Hood River, Oregon on May 1st and 2nd and will be hosted by Craft Brewers Alliance. Our 2009 Fall meeting will take place in Bend, Oregon and sponsored by Deschutes Brewery.
