Board Meeting Minutes: March 22, 2007
March 22 12:00 PM at Lumber Barons Charcoal Grill and Brewpub

Chad introduces new board of executives. 

Chad introduces and thanks on behalf of our chapter  Roy Johnson from Haffmans/ Sudmo for coming to speak about a revolutionary new technology for measuring Dissolved Oxygen.

Rex's treasury report:    Checking account balance is $4,720.22 as of 2/28/07. Our CD value is at $7,853.63, matures on 6/29/07.

Marty state of affairs reports:  58 members currently. To help with recruitment National is running a promotion on dues of buy the first year, get the second year half off.  We are matching the promotion by reimbursing the chapter initiation fee of $15.00.  Our goal is to increase 10% this year.  This means are goal set is to add 6 new breweries and 6 new members.  Scott Graham will encourage MBAA membership through the Michigan brewers Guild.  Also was mentioned (WAS THE ELIMINATION OF THE $15.00 DISTRICT INITION FEE AND) the increase of district dues to $20.00 (BEGINNING JAN. 1, 2006) for next year.

Jan board of governor report: talked to the Board of Directors committee about greater representation for the small brewery.  Expressing the inconsideration of the committee on having the next summer national MBAA conference in Hawaii.     Enerco is donating transportation to next National Meeting.  Anyone interested can contact Jan Muuse.

SEPTEMBER 22, 2007 MBAA ANNUAL TIGERS HOME GAME SOCIAL.
OCTOBER 18, 2007 GENERAL MEETING NOON AT AT KUHNHENN B.C.
OCTOBER 26-28, MBAA NATIONAL CONFERENCE, NASHVILLE TN. National conference announcement of time.
Overview  by Scott Graham of Winter Conference.  Pub Crawl, good presentation.  Good over 100 attendees. A few additional attended dinner.  Not set for next year, but maybe Detroit, most likely the 2nd weekend in January.

Jay from Enerco is introduced by Chad.  Jay passed out cards and let us know he is available for any Boiler Chemical needs.

Chad spoke about goals of the MBAA presentations.  That we need to know 6 months in advance who are technical presenters should be.

August 4, 2007 announced as summer social.  Donation goal of $3,000.00 for vendors.  Cost of summer social same as last year: Rex says Frisbee Golf had 100-125 people.  50/50 raffle announced to generate more money.  Ticket disbursement problems have changed to a manila envelope with a sign off sheet for accountability of tickets.  Jan will take care of Will Call of tickets and an envelope.

Chad is event coordinator for summer social.  Rex taking care of Frisbee Golf.  Alec Mull taking care of food.  Cost to MBAA members: $10.00/head.  Dan Rogers is taking care of Soda and Water. 

Roy Johnson suggests selling shirts, pint glasses and other swag for additional revenue.  Snacks, glassware and cutlery supplies by John Haggerty.  Alec Mull bringing coil-box and tools.  Todd Parker is beer coordinator.

Procurement of prizes by Rex Halfpenny. 
Coordinator of cooler and ice is Bill Wamby. 
Wrist Band by Scott Graham. 

The Peter Blum Scholarship award has been changed to allow the winner to use at national MBAA convention meeting or a MBAA library.

An extra incentive for people attending meetings will get an extra entry in the MBAA scholarship drawing.

Roy Johnson welcomes us to attend the next Cincinnati district meeting at the Hoffbrau House in Kentucky.  Roy Johnson is inviting us for a joint meeting of the Cincinnati and Michigan chapter.  Roy is working on dates. Meeting half way in Ohio to split the difference in travel. 

Marty on new Business announcement of beer festival at Lumber Barons calling it “Mid Michigan Beer Festival” Proceeds going to our MBAA chapter.  August 17th (weekend after the Great Taste of the Midwest)

Scott Graham announced the excise tax increase if you have a contact with legislation, either a state rep or congressman, you need to let him know how it will affect your business.  Nothing is set price wise, it is very important to try to combat this increase. Talks of $10-30 tax increase/ barrel have been discussed.   Links and more information can be found at the Michigan Brews Guild Website.

Technical presentation: Roy Johnson.  Presentation norit 02 technology Hoffman's main business in CO2 recovery.  Big in Europe, revolutionary new technology using photo luminescence.  Measure of CO2 and O2 levels.  Analog price: $4,400.00.  Digital: $8,000.00.  $19,000.00 for downloadable digital uploading.  Also covered: foam stability devise.
