Technical Director's
Notes |
|
Hello Everyone,
My name is Karl Ockert, and I am very excited to begin my tenure as the new Technical Director (TD) for MBAA. I will be learning my new job duties and responsibilities from Ray Klimovitz until the end of the year, including directing our MBAA short courses in brewing and packaging, editing and retooling the
Technical Quarterly into a quarterly electronic journal, and immersing myself in the various committees that drive our association. The TD position has been expanded, and I will also direct the development, launch, and administration of the new Beer Steward Certification Program and help with the IBD Certification Module 3 training course to be offered in February 2011. Another priority for me is to develop MBAA educational initiatives to include a wider section of brewing and packaging professionals. We especially want to reach out to those professionals from smaller companies who have strong interests and who need to improve their technical knowledge but lack the time or support to attend our short courses or our annual convention. From its inception, the strength of MBAA has resided in the passion, camaraderie, and enthusiasm of our members. I encourage you all to attend your District meetings, get involved by becoming District officers or committee members, and perhaps even share with your colleagues a presentation of a novel solution you have worked out to a common issue. I believe that education brings innovation, and a willingness to share will bring compound rewards both to yourself and your company. I look forward to working with and serving MBAA members and to promoting the continuing mission of MBAA. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns anytime (mailto:kockert@mbaa.com).
Thank you!
Karl Ockert

MBAA would like to thank Alex Speers (Dalhousie University) for his years of service as he steps down from the
Technical Quarterly (TQ) Editorial Board. Alex has been a dedicated member of the board since 2004. Looking ahead, MBAA welcomes Tom Shellhammer (Oregon State University) to the position of
TQ Editorial Board chair effective immediately. Tom has been a member of MBAA since 1995, and MBAA is excited to have him heading up the
TQ Editorial Board.

District Rocky Mountain Summer Meeting Held at Tommyknocker Brewery and Pub |
|
The summer meeting for MBAA
District Rocky Mountain was held on August 18, 2010. We were graciously welcomed by the Tommyknocker Brewery and Pub, Idaho Springs, CO. Our hosts were Larry Nemnich, Steve Indrehus, and Jim Schwab. The festivities for the evening began at about 5:30 p.m. with the social hour and tours of the brewery. Unfortunately, half the attendees were stuck on the side of Interstate 70 at the Evergreen exit! It was, as they say,
"a long day!"
