President's Message |
|
On Friday, July 9, we made the exciting announcement that Karl Ockert has accepted the position as our new MBAA Technical Director. The selection committee received many qualified applicants, and we believe the right person was selected for our future. The new Technical Director will be a full-time position taking on new and exciting initiatives. Karl will be very involved in the new Beer Certification Program, IBD Diploma offering, and expanding number of Spanish classes we offer in South America. He also will be assisting the Technical, Education, and Global Emerging Issues Committees in their efforts to grow and improve our organization. We look forward to new ideas and initiatives from Karl. He will operate out of his home in Portland, OR, and will come on board September 1.
While we are excited about our new direction, we will miss the sage advice and guidance of Ray Klimovitz. As a long-time member, Ray has help our organization grow and prosper. While MBAA president in 1997-1998, he assisted the organization through troubled times. He has assisted the Executive Committee in keeping a steady hand on the rudder over the last 10 years. While he is not riding off into the sunset, we will miss not having his advice on a daily basis. We will honor Ray and his efforts at the 2011 MBAA Convention; however, I want to express our deepest gratitude for all of his work and the time he has devoted to MBAA. He is someone we can all aspire to become.
Jim Diamantis

District Philadelphia Holds Third Annual Summer Social in Allentown, PA |
|
Coming on the heels of the MBAA Convention in Providence, RI, and the MBAA
District Philadelphia Golf Outing in June, close to 30 members and guests got a respite from the heat in the High Gravity Room at the Allentown Brew Works on Friday, July 16, 2010. Brewers from 11 member breweries and allied industries took a break from the busy summer brewing season to enjoy an evening with friends, good beer, food, and conversation. Patrick Jones brought along a keg of Keller Bier from Philadelphia's Triumph Brewery and Restaurant, which added a nice Teutonic touch to the evening.
